Battle Brothers ist ein rundenbasiertes Strategiespiel mit Rollenspielelementen und Mittelalter-Setting. Der Spieler nimmt die Rolle eines Anführers ein, der eine Abenteurergruppe leitet. Er kämpft gegen eine Invasion mysteriöser Feinde und steuert dazu bis zu 12 Battle Brothers in den Kampf. Jeder sammelt individuell Erfahrung und schaltet neue Skills frei. Wenn einer von ihnen im Kampf stirbt, bleibt er tot - Permadeath. Der Platz muss mit einem neuen Streiter gefüllt werden. Karten, Charaktere und Gegner werden komplett prozedural generiert.
